Has anyone been along to look at our new Saturday market as yet?

I've been elsewhere the last two Saturdays - Did I miss anything good?

I don't know... I still haven't got there!

The first one was at the beginning of April and I understood that it was going to be a trial for a couple of months... so... maybe.

Trial period for a Saturday market

Caldicot Market is held weekly on Tuesdays in the main predestrianised area in the town.

From 4th April 2009, a Saturday market will also be held in Caldicot for a trial period of 2 months.

The aim of the Saturday market is to try to lessen the effects of the economic downturn in local trade and it is hoped the market will entice shoppers into the town rather than travelling to neighbouring towns or cities.

During the two month trial period, the success of the market will be monitored with a view to reaching a decision about a possible longer term future for the market.

If you have any comments (positive or negative) on the Saturday market, please email caldicotoss@monmouthshire.gov.uk (caldicotoss@monmouthshire.gov.uk) or call into Caldicot One Stop Shop where you can fill in a comments form.

A Report from your Roving Reporter:

At last I can report that I roved to the market this morning: Meat market lorry, fresh fish van, the stall that sells Pet food/chews/baskets/essentials that every furry friend needs, and the Veg/fruit/plants stall down at the Cross end of the street. So I got some fruit and veg.

Not as many stalls as I had hoped for but it saved me a trip into Somerfields.
